Nickel Alloy Fasteners & Studs :

          Nickel is a metal that could be alloyed with any other metals to form some of the strongest alloys. Considered to be highly resistant to corrosion, nickel alloy fasteners are preferred for several applications. However, the nickel alloy studs (nickel alloy fasteners ) are generally put to task in applications that call for the material to withstand high temperature environments. Unlike the nickel alloy threaded rod, ordinary steel alloys tend to exhibit decay upon oxidation.

Aside from resistance to oxidation corrosion, nickel alloy studs also exhibit resistance to some form of reducing agents. Commercially wrought products such as nickel 200 fasteners are used at temperatures below 600? F, while also being able to exhibit outstanding resistance to corrosion in caustic alkalies. The UNS N02200 Studs also have outstanding resistance to dry fluorine & hydroxides. The content of carbon in nickel 201 fasteners is lower as compared to nickel 200.

Both alloys are commercially wrought pure nickel alloy nuts. While the carbon content in this alloy is low, the hardness has also been reduced. Furthermore, by lowering its carbon content, the UNS N02201 Studs is known to prevent embrittlement caused by intergranular carbon. 

Generally, intergranular corrosion, which attacks conventional steel at temperatures over 315 degree, does not affect the nickel alloy stud.
